Fault 1. Applying a cakey foundation
You shouldn’t use a cakey foundation because it is too heavy on your skin. Cakey foundation helps you create a good coverage and hide all the imperfections on your skin. But if you wear incorrect shade your face will have unnatural look and appear as a mask. These foundations are very thick and can clog your pores if your skin is prone to breakouts, acne or it is oily. That’s why you need to avoid cakey foundation. It is more useful to apply light liquid foundation that fits the type of your skin. The foundation should be used after the moisturizer and applied with a make-up sponge in order to create an even and flawless look.
Fault 2. Wearing too dark foundation
The shade of the foundation should suit the natural tone of your skin. However there is a tendency today to apply a foundation that is two or three shades darker than the skin tone. As a result the face can look comically and unnatural. A lot of women think that the darker tone of foundation can act like a bronzer creating a summer tan. But it is better to use bronzers for such purpose.
It is useful to consult a beauty consultant who can help you choose the appropriate tone of the foundation. You need to sample the foundation in natural light and apply a small amount to your cheekbones and jaw line. Also you can ask for a sample which you can try at home.
Fault 3. Using too much foundation in order to mask the imperfections
It is not advised to apply too much foundation to hide the imperfections such as pimples, scars, small pimples or dark circles under the eyes. Instead of it you should give the preference to a concealer. Apply a light creamy formula which provides good coverage. The concealer can be used before or after the foundation. It depends on the results which you want to achieve.
For instance, if you want to mask a small pimple the concealer should be applied before the foundation. To hide dark circles around the eyes it should be used after the foundation.
Fault 4. Not blending your foundation properly
The foundation should be blended well after the application. It is necessary in order to avoid a mask look. You can start blending at the forehead and then spread it throughout your face. You need to move in circular motions. Then blend onto the jawline and your hair line. The lines of the foundation should be invisible. You can blend the foundation with your fingers, make-up sponge or a foundation brush. The foundation should be spread out evenly. It is also necessary to apply the foundation on your neck. There should be no patches left on your skin.
Fault 5. Applying lipstick if your lips are chapped
It is not recommended to apply lipstick if your lips are chapped. It can even aggravate the condition. It is useful to apply a lip balm instead. Use vaseline, petroleum jelly which can help you keep you lips moist and soft. However if you still want to wear a lipstick, you need to apply a lip balm before the lipstick to provide moisture. Once or twice a week you can exfoliate your lips gently with a mild exfoliator and a toothbrush.
