Ancient Egypt make up made a great contribution to the world's sense of beauty.  Egyptians were the first who discovered the wonders of   beautification and make up.

Ancient Egypt's Concept of Beauty
It should be mentioned that for the ancient Egyptians the beauty concept was an integral part of their society. Beauty stood closely to the mortal existance and even in their afterlife. There was a belief that the more beautiful you are the closer you will be to the gods. The make up was very valuable for them and Egyptians ritualized it. They kept their cosmetics in special jars and packed in make up boxes.

Egyptian Fashion
There is no doubt that ancient Egyptian make up was complemented by simple but at the same time elegant fashion. Men wore knee-length kilts tied at the waist, while women put on close-fitting linen kalisaris flowing from their breasts down towards their feet. Costumes also evolved in the later era, with adornments, pleats and fringes added to them.

Egyptian Eye Make up
The ancient Egyptians used different types of eye make up:
The Udju. It was made out of green malachite (copper ore) which was taken from the mines in Sinai.

Kohl. Kohl was made out of galena or lead sulfide that were taken either from the coasts of the Red Sea or around the upper areas of Egypt. It was used as black eyeliners.

Saffron. This was an expensive yellow-coloured spice which was used as  eye shadow.

Jasper. A mineral which served as medicinal eye treatments.

Burnt Almonds. They used these along with minerals to add colour to eyes and brows.

Goose fat was used to create cosmetics pastes. Egyptians packed their make up in jars, pouches or shells.
